Agency Wins for Work with Both New and Long-Time Clients
May 12, 2014, Emerson, NJ -- MRC Medical Communications announced today that it has been honored with two 2014 Aster Awards. These are MRC Medical's 63rd and 64th national awards for creative, production, writing and marketing excellence. Earlier this week the agency announced it was also named a winner in the prestigious Healthcare Advertising Awards.
The Aster Awards is an elite competition recognizing the nation's most talented healthcare marketing professionals for outstanding achievement in advertising. According to the Aster Awards web site, all entries in the competition are judged by a panel of design and healthcare marketing professionals with decades of combined experience. Entries are judged on: creativity, layout/design, typography, production, quality and overall effectiveness.
MRC Medical received a Silver Aster for its integrated corporate identity program for new client mfPHD of Lorena, Texas (www.mfphd.com) and its tradeshow direct mail program for long-time client TRUMPF Medical Systems of Charleston, SC. (www.us.trumpf.com/med).
Unique Elements Distinguish mfPHD Identity Program
Unique elements and interactivity distinguished MRC's award-winning mfPHD corporate identity campaign. mfPHD, which is an acronym for Modular Fabrication Per Hospital Design, manufactures modular, stainless steel construction products, including wall and automatic door systems, for Operating Rooms, Intensive Care Units, Neuro Intensive Care Units and hospital Central Sterile Processing departments.
The full identity campaign included an actual stainless steel business card, expanding direct mailer, oversized business card, interactive e-brochure, online video and tradeshow booth design. MRC Medical's Creative Director Dave Rector gives much of the credit for the program's success to the creative dynamic that has evolved between the agency and its new client.
"One side throws something out there and the other side builds on it," says Rector. "It's the dynamic we try to develop with each of our clients, but with mfPHD it's been there since day one."
The oversized business card is a perfect example according to Rector.
"mfPHD principals Tom Crenshaw and Jason Keith wanted to standout with an oversized card, roughly the size of an iPhone 5," said Rector. "We responded with a layout that not only took full advantage of the size but also expanded the functionality of the card making it interactive."
Rector explains the 2-sided, full color card photographically shows the company's modular operating room wall and door systems and then goes a step further with a smartphone scan-able QR code. The QR code links to the agency's online video showing the benefits of mfPHD's modular wall system as it is installed from the first day of construction to finished operating rooms.
A second, special use card was also designed to reinforce the company's product line.
Since mfPHD's wall systems are stainless steel, MRC Vice President of Business Development, Susan Rector introduced the idea of a senior management card that actually was printed on die-cut stainless steel. The unique card features a 2-sided design and the same interactive QR code.
The third component of the campaign submitted to the Aster judges was the foldout direct mailer. The piece engages the recipient by opening from a 5-inch square to a full 25 inches in length. Each panel steps through the various phases of design and construction with mfPHD - and the related benefits. The QR code makes this piece interactive as well.
"mfPHD's theme is: BE AWESOME, not average," said Keith. "MRC is reinforcing that message by making our campaigns as awesome as our product and service."
The Sky is the Limit with TRUMPF
The agency's 2nd 2014 Silver Aster Award was earned in the direct mail category. The TRUMPF Medical Systems' mailer is delivered in a standard sized, clear envelope and has the appearance of a corrugated box when closed. It, however, opens to an impressive 16-inch circle with a full view of a blue sky. The transition moves the recipient outside the box and helps them figuratively escape to the limitless opportunities and freedom of choice afforded to hospitals by TRUMPF and its best in class partners.
"This award - and the Health Care Advertising award announced last week - adds to the string of national honors we have received for our work with TRUMPF," said Rector. "We feel this is a tribute to not only the great creative and effective marketing, but to the strong ongoing partnership between TRUMPF and MRC."
Hilary Palmer, TRUMPF's Manager, Marketing Communications & Intelligence, agrees.
"We have been working with MRC Medical for many years," said Palmer. "Our close relationship with their dedicated and dynamic team continues to grow, enabling successful development and execution of unique creative solutions that are in line with our strategic objectives."
